Wii Fit Plus is the follow-up game to the monster successful game Wii Fit. Wii Fit Plus will be released here in the UK on 30th October 2009, just in time for the Christmas rush. Commercially savvy as ever, I believe that this is an immensely smart move. The original Wii Fit has sold over 18.22 million copies, as of March 31 2009. If the sequel is even half as popular then Nintendo will have “struck oil” again!
Wii Fit Plus was first announced at the E3 conference in June 2009. Since that day the hype hasn’t stopped! The game itself is available for preorder either as a stand-alone game, or as a bundle with the Wii Balance Board. For most people this should be an addition to the excellent first game - Wii Fit.
New features in Wii Fit Plus include a new calorie counter and the ability to create custom fitness regimes. These regimes allow you to choose from a number of specialised routines. These routines are based on specific objectives and are worked out by the time available.
This new version has been changed to incorporate more games. Wii Fit Plus contains all the workouts and features from the original game but adds some great features and games. These are fifteen new balance games, and six new strength training and yoga activities. The 15 new Balance Board games in Wii Fit Plus include some classics from Nintendo’s illustrious past, Mario and Pilotwings. There is also a way of driving a Segway, but I’ve no idea how? You can see some of these on the E3 launch video below:
I’ve preordered my copy from Game.co.uk (my usual pre-order website) have you got your copy of Wii Fit Plus on preorder?
It’s my opinion that Nintendo have seen the success of the EA game Sports Active and have developed/launched Wii Fit Plus in retaliation. The original Wii Fit was very much an Eastern/Japanese approach and philosophy to fitness. While the new game, Wii Fit Plus, will have the original approach and the more Western approach of fitness and calorie loss.
Randomly there is also a way to weigh your cat or dog? I personally have used the Balance Board to weigh my suitcase/luggage before going away in the past. It’s a wonder that Nintendo haven’t thought to include this as a bonus game!
