The Wii Motion Plus is the new add-on to the Wii Remote.  This expansion device gives the Wii Remote more accurate motions and renders it in real-time.  The sensor in the device, supplements the accelerometer and Sensor Bar capabilities of the Wii Remote to capture the complex motions.

First announced at E3 on July 14th, 2008 and then shown to the world next next day at the press conference, this accessory will be a must-have for all Wii owners.

We have no official release date yet, but as soon as there is one I’ll update the blog straight away.  UPDATE: Release date is 24th July 2009 in the UK, better get WIi Sports Resort pre order in now!!

The President of Nintendo America - Reginald Fils-Aimé announced at E3 that a Wii Motion Plus accessory will be bundled with the follow up to Wii Sports - Wii Sports Resort.  This is due to be released in early 2009 and was used to show-off the capabilities of the Wii Motion Plus at E3, check out the footage in the YouTube video below:

Games that have been announced that are Wii Motion Plus compatible are:
- Red Steel 2
- A so-far un-named EA Sports-branded Tennis game.

Update: August 2009

MotionPlus games now released, or available for pre-order are: Wii Sports Resort, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, Grand Slam Tennis, Red Steel 2, Virtua Tennis 2009, NHL 2K10, Academy of Champions, Kidz Sports - Crazy Mini Golf, Food Network: Cook or Be Cooked, Gladiator A.D., The Grinder and Span Smasher.

I’d be really interested to see what Red Steel 2 will be like as I was extremely disappointed with the original…  If the Wii Motion Plus enables you to slice and dice the bad guys as accurately as it does in the Wii Sports Resort sword-duelling game, then Red Steel 2 could be really, really good!

What other games would everyone like to see?  A Star Wars lightsaber action game perhaps? New Zelda?? Oh yes!!

If you are interested in pre-ordering a copy of Wii Sports Resort - and hence getting a look/play of a Wii Motion Plus accessory, then currently Game.co.uk are your guys.  They seem to be the only retailer I’ve found that are currently taking pre-orders for stock of Wii Sports Resort.  With a RRP of £49.99 here in the UK, Game.co.uk are selling each copy for £39.99 - not bad really, when the Wii Motion Plus will probably cost something in the region of £20-30 when released as a separate entity.
